SCC EXTREME ARTICHOKES

On two wheels...

Although bicycles have been around for over 200 years, the way people have used them have evolved tremendously. Once used primarily as a form a transportation, action sports athletes have found ways to make the bike do things that people never would have thought were possible.

One of the most common bikes in the action sports world is a BMX bike. BMX stands for bicycle motocross and refers to competing in racing or freestyle events. This has also evolved to street use where people find ways to perform tricks in an urban setting using buildings, structures and landscaping. Out of all the different bikes, this is typically the most affordable.

Another common type of bike to find in Arizona is a mountain bike. These bikes are designed for more rigorous trails and offroad use. The bikes have more advanced brakes and gearing to help when going up or down trails. They bikes also have shocks to help absorb the impact as you are riding on the rugged terrain. Throughout the Phoenix area, you can find numerous trails designed for this type of bike, just be cautious in the summer time and make sure you have plenty of water.

Some people may say that the most extreme type of bike is a dirt bike. This is mainly because this bike is motorized and can get up to extremely high speeds. Over the years, athletes like Travis Pastrana have pushed the boundaries of what these bikes can do and have even landed double backflips on these in competitions. Although there are plenty of places in the desert or forest where you are able to ride these, it is harder to find dirt bike tracks in the Phoenix area.
